Well i did make a vhd from my windows os but something went wrong and its gone
The good news is that i already had all of my data backed up so notting is lost.Running Linux Lite again and feels like coming home
All running smooth. I installed Virtualbox through the Linux Lite software, then installed extensions,no idea what the virtual guest additions are . I got windows 10 on a cd and also got windows 7 with sp1 as iso file. Only problem is that the harddrive is very old and only 50GB. Not sure if the laptop is worth spending 60 euro for a ssd, its already 5 years old, did fell down the stairs a few times..amazed that it still runs. I havent created seperate partitions for home and root, just accepted the default settings and ran the installation.
I got a Teclast X98 Pro tablet and a LG G2 phone and connecting the phone to linux isnt a problem, works perfect.

Guest Additions are the drivers that virtualbox uses to optimise the guest in a virtual environment.
sometime you get better graphics/audio support. Typically allows full screen, depending on host graphics.
To install, depending how you have it now.?, In a Window, or full screen
There is usually a "Menu" called "Devices", then an option "Insert Guest Additions CD Image"
Selecting this, depending on how windows is set up will either:
- Launch the installer, accept the defaults, let it install, and re-start the VM
or
- Will add a CD in the My Computer, opening it should start the installer, accept the defaults, let it install, and re-start the VM

5 years is not bad at all. It's just right, in fact. My desktop is 8 years old. My laptop must be about 3 years old. They both run LL 2.6 with 8GB of RAM and 300GB hard drives. With Linux Lite, I don't see a need to replace either of them for the next 5 years.
Before going much further, open up Systemback and create a restore point.
You don't have to have SSD. For around $25 USD, you can get a 320GB hard drive on Amazon. That's 5400 rpm. 7200 rpm might be about $10 more. If your laptop can hold more than the 4GB of RAM you have listed, for virtualization, it would be beneficial to max out what it can handle. On ebay, you should be able to find good deals on that.
You don't need Guest Additions yet. It's to help with resizing the window of your VM. Once you get Windows up, it'll be very easy to get that going.

If i did read it correct it should be able to hold 8GB of ddr2 memory..not sure if ddr3 memory will work
It used to have a 320gb 7200rpm hitachi hard drive, but sadly that died a 2,5 years ago, i have enough with a 120gb hd, so will start looking for a 7200rpm replacement for the old one i use now.
I will look into creating a virtual machine later today, first got a dentist appointment..notting serious, just the 6 months check up

Laptop is running again with Linux Lite 2.6 and got the virtual machine setup and running with windows 10, only had to use the manual to get usb working but all working fine now. Going to have a look to find some extra memory for the laptop and another larger hd.

If you can afford an SSD, you will really notice a "big" difference.
I have used Samsung 840 & 850 with 120GB, they are very good.

I was looking at the Kingston SSDNow V300 120gb, but i have no experience with ssd.
Been also looking at hdd caddy for adding second hd

Hi,
The Kingston uses an older type of technology.
If you can afford the Samsung it will give better performance.
There is nothing special you need to do,
Just think of it like an ordinary spinner, but much faster.
You just install in the same way.

I am going to wait till November or December anyway, first need to pay my income tax
The extra 20-25 euro for the samsung wont break the bankaccount, so will be going for the 120gb samsung 850
