I did, it says no scanner.

BUT I found a solution!

Can you share the solution please?

Canon also supply a programme ScanGearMP to run the scanner

go here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/c...100551901.html to download scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb.tar.gz and close the terminal from above; reopen and then
Code:
cd Downloads
tar -zxvf scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb.tar.gz
cd scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb
./install.sh

run ScanGearMP with

Code:
scangearmp

I even set up a launcher and got it to work.

As for the printer, it turns out that apparently just plugging it in worked. it was automatically recognized in Linux Lite. sometime between January 2014 and today the printer software got updated to included the drivers for my printer.

So it all worked on it's own. I was silly for even posting.

Not silly at all, and thank you for sharing the solution with others.

Hello All,

The info in reply #10 wouldn't work for me to convert the package with the exact same model printer/scanner, kept telling me no such file or directory, I had to install Alien & use it for the conversion.

Here's the steps:

Open Terminal then
Code:
sudo apt-get install alien
Hit Enter, enter password, hit Enter again.
When it asks y/n hit y then Enter.

Close Terminal after alien's installed & make sure the .tar.gz file is in home/Downloads then open Terminal and
Code:
cd Downloads
Hit Enter

Then
Code:
sudo alien -d scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-rpm.tar.gz
Hit Enter, enter password if required & hit Enter.

Might take a little while to do the conversion then you'll see a message in Terminal "scangearmp-mg2500series_2.20-2_all.deb generated"

That's it, then just double click on the newly created .deb package to install it  8)

Looks like I need a little help with getting this printer/scanner working.
It's not actually for me but my Mum who's about 11 hours away from where I am.
We're both on LL2.0, it's an MG 2560 I've been informed & I don't have the same printer/scanner.
Printer works fine, just plugged it in and it worked right from the start but the scanner refuses to.
After installing the .deb above neither of us can even get the scangear software to run by using Terminal & 'scangearmp'.
'sudo scangearmp' also does nothing, 'gksudo scangearmp' runs it & it runs for abour 5 seconds then closes itself again.
Tried that with the printer/scanner plugged in, tried restarting with & without the printer/scanner plugged in etc. etc...
We've also added 'sudo add-apt-repository ppa:inameiname/stable' which gives a lot of different choices for the scangear software to be added via Synaptic though nothing tried will work.
No matter what we do it just refuses to recognise the scanner.

Probably off topic but we both had an issue adding that repository by just typing it in, only way it'd work was to paste it in for some reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks but no thanks.
I would advise people to only get drivers from the manfacturer's site.

The Canon printer/scanner has been binned b.t.w., replaced with HP, no more problems.
