[member=7109]Moltke[/member]  Below is a screenshot of default Debian 8 DE. (ignore the conky)

It is impossible that your LL system suddenly became Debian (different kernel and file system) or for that matter even skinned with Debian as Debian does not use the same graphics format for wallpaper or lockscreen. I'm assuming you got the blue XFCE background which does happen infrequently with an *upgrade (not update) when certain latent XFCE configurations cannot be passed to the new kernel because of dependency or permission problems or both. In other words some DE settings must be added manually all over again in some cases of *upgrades (not usually true of updates). In the future run updates first, then disable auto login, and run upgrade, and instead of the unix && command line try the Lite upgrade feature included with Lite software. As I said before there is a Debian 8 grub bootscreen 640 by 480 still mired in the grub code for GFX mode which can be confusing but it only appears in GFX mode. Look in /etc/default/grub and make sure GFX mode is commented out, a # before it.

[member=5916]trinidad[/member] It looks like Debian to me, Debian 9 if I remember well; The wallpaper and menu on top, the dock. I did take a screenshot, I thought I had lost it but...check it out.

I do prefer the terminal method. I find it faster than the Lite upgrade tool. Smile

Yes, it is. Don't know if it was in that old  LL install, but in this one it is.

Re: Something's wrong - trinidad - 11-27-2017

[member=7109]Moltke[/member]      Yep it sure looks like Deb 9 XFCE except for two little things - the applications button with the XFCE logo, that's default XFCE not Deb, and - the low quality of the Deb wallpaper - it's a utility splash and not an .svg file. You had an unresolved dependency problem prior to upgrading and XFCE went default because of it. The Deb wallpaper is just XFCE picking up some latent configuration of some Debian DE effecting package. When you get messed up DEs like this after an upgrade the best thing to do is to open Settings Manager and reconfigure the XFCE DE. When you see stuff like this it's kinda like the XFCE DE is asking you - what do you wanna do now? or - please decide how you want to set me up.

Thanks for following up on this and the so clarifying explanation which will be of great help next time I encouter a similar situation. Hope I don't, but better safe than sorry Smile

You know, while I was at it, dealing with that issue, I thought "what are you telling me Linux? I know you want to tell me something but I can't understand a damn thing" lol

Regarding this, how would I exactly do that? I'm not sure I understand. If you don't mind, could you elaborate a little bit more on this, please? Thanks.

Re: Something's wrong - TheDead - 11-27-2017

Un-serious post! Wink
To fix your computer, pick up you mouse and speak into it saying "Computer, fix my XFCE Desktop Environnement please!" and thats it!
Sorry for trolling, I just had a vision of the old StarTrek movie reading your post and lol'ed alone, must be my flu medicine! Tongue

Ok, back I'm to work!
Cheers!

Re: Something's wrong - trinidad - 11-27-2017

Cortana? Where'd you put my old desktop? Please?

reply: Cannot compute your question. Would you like to see a YouTube video?

Re: Something's wrong - Ottawagrant - 11-27-2017

I have a little piece of hockey tape over my web cam & sound off on my Windows 10 computer. With Cortana around I keep having these thoughts of "Open the pod bay door please HAL".

Yeah, Windows 10 on my tablet keeps installing unwanted stuff, even if updates are turned off, etc.
MS really knows what is best for us! Thanks big brother!

"What did you say Lassie? Uncle Tom is stuck in the well because he was high on meth and tried to fly? Let's go help him!" Woof!
