How did I manage to read your mind?  :o  WoW!!! Yeah, I was nagged about another post when posting my own... Let's see what other users have to say; our way is definitely not the only way Smile . With that said, LT is not a daily application and it is likely to be used by admins anyways. Lite Tweaks is one of those apps in Linux Lite that users run maybe once a month to do a clean up (if at all). That doesn't diminishes it value, but the reality is that admins identify the tweak by its NAME and not by the Category, which can also be replaced by sorting by Tasks. At least that's what my brain does when looking at LT; also that's what my wife says she "feels"... and believe you me; she is to be obeyed... lol  ;D

I voted for password but like [member=6629]ralphy[/member]'s idea too. I would like to see sorting by safe status first.

Hello,

I voted to keep the old category as it is informative when learning about the system.

I would like to suggest coloured text in the category column, if it requires admin password colour it red for example, or bold.

Re: POLL: Lite Tweaks Column Change - bonnevie - 04-21-2017

Honestly?  I don't think it makes a difference for a Windows-turns-Linux user. I took it for granted that I had to "sudo" everything for my own good in LL Tweak mode.  And if you keep it the way it is, no problem for this user here. Safe or not safe is a much more important feature to me.

Added Remove Category column to Poll.

Re: POLL: Lite Tweaks Column Change - m654321 - 04-22-2017

In my view, 'Password' is not necessary, as it's required by default for most LT tasks (i.e. 14 out of 19 listed LT tasks), and anyway is assumed to be needed to carry out most admin tasks in Linux more generally.

'Category' doesn't provide any useful practical information beyond what is already given in 'Task' and in 'Description', both the latter being important  in helping the user decide which LT task to use. However, in agreement with bitsnpcs, the classification within 'Category' does help one see how things fit together, when learning about the OS, though, again, not essential for practical purposes - it seems to be one of those 'nice-to-have-but-not-necessary-things'.

When I had LL installed on a 10" Samsung netbook (setup2 in sig), I can't recall screen width as being an issue for LT.
So, bitsnpcs' comment in Reply #12  swings it slightly in favour of keeping 'Category', so long as screen width (as it stands) isn't an issue... so that's the way I've voted.

Re: POLL: Lite Tweaks Column Change - Daveyboy - 04-22-2017

Voted Remove as I feel this column is unnessesary bhowever, whilst on the subject of Lite Tweaks.

The first thing I do when using Lite Tweaks is to re-sort the menu order by status, i.e. all safe options together, in order to minimise the chance of ticking one of the  "Caution" categories by mistake.  [size=78%]I feel it would be useful if this was the default listing order in future releases [/size]

Could the admin items be color-coded, and then retain the existing column? Also, I don't know if it would be feasible, but I would think it ideal to have one password sign-in authorize all the tweaks of a given session, rather than piecemeal.

Edit: sorry, didn't see the earlier suggestions to star the items requiring a password.

[member=5287]paul1149[/member] in the latest Lite Tweak update we addressed this in a slightly different way. Lite Tweaks will ask for admin credentials once only and then admins can execute as many tweaks as needed without being prompted for credentials all over again... as long as Lite Tweaks application is not quitted.
