Re: Desktop Distro of The Year 2015 - nomko - 02-16-2016 No surprise here to see that Mint beat Ubuntu again. Ever since Ubuntu 11.04 with the Unity desktop Ubuntu is loosing users to Mint and other distro's but especially Mint. I have read discussion on the Ubuntu forums that this is just bullocks and bullshit and not so true... This poll proves it again that they are so wrong on the Ubuntu forums..... To be fair, part of the problem is that Ubuntu usually means Ubuntu with Unity DE. Ubuntu has different names for each of its versions with a different DE (Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu, etc.) plus Ubuntu Studio. Mint regardless of DE is counted as Mint. If all the flavors of "official" Ubuntu were counted as Ubuntu, I wonder if it wouldn't be number one. And the same goes for Mint as well. Break down both OS'es to all flavours available and Mint will still be on the top i think. The Cinnamon desktop is really appealing to a lot of people. Can't say that of the Unity desktop... KDE and Xfce desktop are similar on all distro's so that doesn't really set any differences. I'll put my dollar on Mint + Cinnamon |
