Re: Is there a way to make a bootable clone of my Linux Lite partition? - LL-user - 07-16-2015 Hi Len, That's great! Well done ![]() Just in case you have a spare disk flying around (at least as big as the one you took an image from), it's always a good practice to actually test the restoring process. If I got it correctly you speparately cloned the partitions, i.e. not the whole disk, did you? Just as heads up, in case of a necessary recovery you would usually still be left with having to rebuild/install a boot loader! The beauty of having a complete disk image is that even the boatloader is taken care of ![]() Re: Is there a way to make a bootable clone of my Linux Lite partition? - Lend27 - 07-16-2015 I have both Linux and Windows on seperate partitions on the same SSD, so I cloned each partition. I am hoping that restoring would give me a bootable partition as I have now. NO? Thanks! Len Re: Is there a way to make a bootable clone of my Linux Lite partition? - LL-user - 07-16-2015 Hi Len, I'm not that familiar with dual boot Linux/Windows, especially not with UEFI. But IF you have installed the bootloader NOT to a partition (like sda1) but to the MBR of the disk (like sda) - which is the usual way, THEN, it won't be backed up with the partition image! There are also ways to backup just the MBR of a disk and restore it. But would have to look it up in my notes. And there might be meanwhile quite nice tools around for doing so I didn't have years back. Hope that helps ![]() Re: Is there a way to make a bootable clone of my Linux Lite partition? - Lend27 - 07-16-2015 OK, I understand. I installed the bootloader to the / partition. So it should boot. I will test it asap. Thanks again! Len |
