Re: Suggested NEXT ! Build Decision... New .iso - N4RPS - 12-16-2014 Hello! LL 'is what it is' for a reason, but I really like LXDE, also. LXDE uses Openbox Configuration Manager, which I also see as more easily customizable. However, To use LXDE in LL would require a distro-changing rewrite - one that will probably never happen. WAY too much work. Except for Lubuntu (no OpenOffice) and LXPup (VERY little of ANYTHING included, AND a REAL pain to add things to), all the other LXDE-based distros (LXLE, Peppermint, etc.) are slower LiveCDs and installs than LL is. One day, I'd like to see LL become a DE all its own - one that will 'play nice' alongside other Ubuntu DEs, like LXDE and MATE. I also like MATE a lot, but not enough to switch to it, unless it will 'play nicer' with UEFI than LL seems to. MATE seems a bit sluggish to me. To me, it's a hassle to even go as far as customizing LL to get the 'look' it had in 1.0.8. Easier for me to just leave everything be... 73 DE N4RPS Rob Re: Suggested NEXT ! Build Decision... New .iso - Wirezfree - 12-16-2014 I would still class my self a noob...9 months in, I have tried quite a few distros, nice but to much eye candy even for Linux. I don't have any hardware constraints/issues, apart from an oddity with WiFi(rtl8188ce) on a "newish" laptop I'm more than happy There would have to be some pretty compelling reason to now move from LL. Also LL makes me feel that I'm part of a supportive happy family ![]() Dave Re: Suggested NEXT ! Build Decision... New .iso - Mike - 12-16-2014 Wow, you'd think he was selling LXDE or something. Re: Suggested NEXT ! Build Decision... New .iso - sysdrum - 12-16-2014 Currently in the world of lite weight and flexibility DE. XFCE and LXQT (LXDE gtk2+) are equal memory usage and openbox light weight king. http://blog.lxde.org/?p=1117 But the point is that XFCE allows the most flexibility for the end user. As LXDE is in the middle of a change from one framework to another. Which make it a little heavy up front moving to QT. But as stated before I do not think a move to LXQT or LXDE will ever happen. Re: Suggested NEXT ! Build Decision... New .iso - rokytnji - 12-16-2014 @the OP https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/trisquel-mini copy Linux Lite /etc/apt/sources.list into Trisquel after the install. Code: sudo apt-get update Code: sudo apt-get upgrade Can't have fun till you walk on the wild side of Life. If you want something bad enough. You have to work for it. I have no interest so I won't be trying this. Like I said earlier. I do my own core command line installs when I walk on the shoulders of giants and prefer my own Window Manager install. |
