Well, this benchmarks only CPU and FPU (besides, results are hard to understand, help leads me to berliOS,...).
Fancy that a user coming from Windows world where the old XP installation was nearly not breathing anymore would easily get a report saying something like... "Having installed all basic applications and updates of LL distribution, your computer still has available 85% of HD capacity. During this standard test run memory of the comp was used by 18%, CPU load was 65%. Overall performance corresponds to: 150% of Intel Celeron 1.5Ghy based system."

If you want to look at benchmarking.
Look at: Sysbench Phronix
There are Youtube vids on them.
But remember LL is aimed at the "General Windows XP" user.
"Benchmarking" is for what you might say, the more "power user"

This seems to be a benchmarking high-end. Please notice that I have not mentioned these confusing GBs, MBs, GFLOPS,... but just percentages, which should be well understood by general XP user.

Unfortunately no such tool exists(that I'm aware of.?) to give a "simple %" compared "to" a reference of xxx.
The tools in System Information are the nearest to this.
CPU Blowfish tells me "This PC" is 2.11 secs, compared to 26.19 for Celeron 1.5Ghz, so just over 12 X better

OK, so my suggestion has developed into two directions:
1. I slightly miss something similar to "Windows Experience Index" of W7. Something that would say: "This component of your machine is currently bottleneck of Linux performance." Recomendation derived from it may be like:
- consider expanding memory
- consider replacement of HDD by SSD
...
- do nothing as all components have approximately balanced performance
- do nothing as with this old CPU there is no chance
This might be mainly interesting for XP refugees running an obsolete HW. Here LL competes with (?) W7. We are not aware of Linux tool which would provide similar functionality.
2. LL is modest in resource consumption. Could this fact be better shown (advertized if you want) to potential users in a very simple form?

Hi,
I think such a tool would be very useful, but it's almost a 1 time use, till you update/upgrade H/W.
The LL Devs have limited resources, and want to focus on the core LL System, and most wanted apps.
If you look on LL Main site... The System Requirements are shown.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea,
It's about Return on Investment(ROI), when resources/funds are limited.
I suggest you raise this again once 3.0 is released.

Any thoughts on App Grid Software Center since it is replacing the Ubuntu Software Center? I guess it would be easy to put in 2.8. Here is a review by Graham Linux http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vHXmp9CD7Q
For me I am comfortable now with just Synaptic but when I started using LL with 1.0.8 there was a (Lubuntu) software center and it was helpful for a newby to Linux.
