Include Pinta - eightbit - 09-30-2014 First, sorry for all of the suggestions I just love LL I seem to install Pinta each time I install any distro. It just comes second nature. In keeping with the Lite-ness, this application is there. It reminds me of the good old Paint Shop Pro days. Really easy to use, and the interface is not cluttered or separated into windows like Gimp (I always hated that). Just a simple paint and image manipulation tool that anyone can use...even if they have never used it before. Great for resizing images, adjusting images, and more. I cannot say enough good about this simple yet so very efficient application. It runs fast in LL, and I highly suggest anyone try it! Re: Include Pinta - Valtam - 09-30-2014 Doesn't it require Mono? Re: Include Pinta - eightbit - 09-30-2014 Yeah, it looks like it does. Is that a bad thing? (Not too familiar with mono) Re: Include Pinta - Valtam - 09-30-2014 Mono is linux implementation of .NET so it pulls down a lot of extra dependencies, kinda heavy but I do love the interface, very nice Re: Include Pinta - eightbit - 09-30-2014 (09-30-2014, 04:35 AM)Valtam link Wrote: Mono is linux implementation of .NET so it pulls down a lot of extra dependencies, kinda heavy but I do love the interface, very nice Even with the extra dependencies, I like this is a LOT lighter than Gimp. I realize Gimp is capable of a whole lot more, but honestly, I *never* open or use it. It is just too overwhelming. The separated windows agitate me, and there just seems to be a whole lot going on there. All I do know is that while my wife (who is not a computer guru by any stretch) cannot navigate around Gimp to a point where she is comfortable, Pinta is easy. Same goes for me when it comes to doing something simple. Pinta is like an upgraded version (very upgraded mind you) of XP's "Paint". I think users could catch on very quickly. Re: Include Pinta - Valtam - 09-30-2014 I do like Pinta, dropping Gimp would be a tough decision. Let's see what others say. Sent from my mobile phone. I am looking at it from an average user's perspective. Linux Lite is "lite" because it contains light software to get jobs done. I really do think Pinta is in this category of an application that is not too heavy, but does what any average user would want it to do in a paint/image application. I would love to hear comments from others on this subject, or any other alternative applications that fit the bill....or why Gimp is the choice for you? Comments welcome! Re: Include Pinta - Valtam - 09-30-2014 Pinta is very 'MS like' and thats a big tick in my box, but when making decisions we have to think of all the existing Gimp users too. If I were in their shoes going from using something that is very powerful and familiar, a tool that they have gotten use to, this could hurt our users. We've had Gimp since LL 1.0 Photoshop is a household name, people often say' that looks photo-shopped' and other similar comments. In linux if we're going to win over windows folk, we have to compete as much as possible in terms of features etc. Let's see what existing Gimp users say, I'd be particularly interested in hearing their comments. Re: Include Pinta - eightbit - 09-30-2014 Wholeheartedly agreed. I just took a glance at the modern "Paint" on my wife's Windows 8.1 machine just for the fun of it. It still is no match for Pinta in terms of functionality. I do not think it takes much to win over Windows users with the great open source applications like Pinta available to us. But let's see what Gimp users say. I think that these users should also think about the "average user' when it comes to this subject however. Anyway, just my contribution of thoughts mind you I expect to see LL gain momentum with users in every release. I pass the word every day Re: Include Pinta - Valtam - 09-30-2014 Good stuff |
