[SOLVED] Changing the Boot Splash Screen? - Coastie - 12-05-2014

I have found a dark theme like in the older versions of Linux Lite is easier on my eyes than the new light themes. I use BlueFear from Manjaro Cup of Linux.

How can I darken the boot splash screen at start up and shutdown or if it can't be darkened eliminate it? I am guessing that eliminating it would give me a black screen with either white or green letters telling what the computer is doing.

To be sure I have the right name, here is a picture of what I think is the boot splash screen:

I have changed the Xfce start up screen. https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/index.php?topic=843.msg4760#msg4760

Hi Coastie,
Does the "Sessions & Startup" settings help? I haven't actually tried it myself but the "splash" tab looks like may do what you're asking about.

As far as I can tell that only controls the Xfce start up screen https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/index.php?topic=843.msg4760#msg4760 and has no effect on the LL boot splash screen. The Xfce can be set to come on after the boot splash screen at startup and modified to how the Xfce startup screen looks.

Hello!

When curious about what's happening on startup/shutdown, I press an arrow key to shut off the splash screen, but you have to do that every time...

The research I have been doing indicates that the program that does this is Plymouth. I have not been able to find it. I read that you can change some lines in it with the terminal. There are programs for changing the picture. I am hoping some one can recommend something safe and easy for a newby to do.

A possible easy solution would be to darken the image with Gimp but I can not find the image.

Dave, I couldn't get her method to work. Got me looking some more and followed these videos to install Grub-Customizer:

Grub-customizer let me add a boot screen image either with or without an image by removing "quiet" but had no effect on the above image at start up and shutdown. I guess it is not a boot splash image. I will have to know what it is to find a solution.

Guys this is not hard thing to do. Open the thunar like this:
Code:
gksudo thunar /lib/plymouth/themes/liteboot/
enter the password
This will open the file manager as an administrator
Edit the background.png in gimp and save it.
Update an existing initramfs
Code:
sudo update-initramfs -u
reboot and enjoy your new boot splash Smile

Thank you! I am enjoying my new boot splash!  8)

I used KoluorPaint because I could not figure out how to get the color I wanted with Gimp.
